Should you end up in Real Trouble
Hopefully, and probably, you will never reach this kind of situation. Probably
few people are experts on this either, a part from those who have been
in this type of situation, and those who rescue them. Nonetheless, here
is some basic advice, should you end up stuck in the desert, with your
vehicle broken.
-
Don't do anything rash without thinking it through first.
-
Try to see if there is a way that you can fix your problem, at least
temporarily.
-
If you are in a group and have another working car, send some people
to get help, or abandon the broken vehicle.
-
Stop any other vehicle that would be passing nearby. They can find
help, give you a ride or give you some water.
-
Ration the water.
-
Stay in the shade. If your air-condition still works, use it. It is
important that you minimise the water lost through transpiration.
-
Stay by the car. Walking in the desert is tough. If you must walk,
walk at night. After some time, a rescue team will probably be sent out
to search for you, so if you are by your car, you will be a lot easier
to find. Try to make some type of signal that shows you're there.
